As one of Society Sessions, the IPS participated in the XXIV World Congress of Philosophy, Beijing, Aug.13-20, 2018. IPS Regional Meeting Report : “Forming the Soul: Plato and his Opponents” (20-22 April 2018, Taipei, Taiwan)

“Forming the Soul: Plato and his Opponents” 20~22 April 2018, Taipei   The 2nd Asia Regional Meeting of the International Plato Society International Conference   The International Conference “Forming the Soul: Plato and his Opponents” was held from 20th to 22nd April 2018 in Chinese Culture University, Taipei, Taiwan. The conference was endorsed by the International Plato Society as a Regional Meeting, and supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and Chinese Culture University in Taiwan. The conference received warm helps from international friends, including our Korean and Japanese IPS members, and local backing from the colleagues and students in the Department of Philosophy of Chinese Culture University, and other Taiwanese scholars who were doing ancient philosophy and history, and those who specialized in other fields but were friendly and helping to this Platonic event. IPS Conference Report – Plato & Rhetoric

Plato & Rhetoric 25 April – 27 April 2014 Hiyoshi Campus of Keio University, Yokohama, Japan The International Symposium “Plato & Rhetoric” was held on 25-27 April 2014 at the Hiyoshi Campus of Keio University in Yokohama, Japan. The conference was endorsed by the IPS as a Regional Meeting, and supported by the JSPS Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Project, in cooperation with Keio University (Research Centre for Thinking and Behavioral Judgment, Global Research Centre for Logic and Sensibility) and Mita Philosophy Society. The Organizing Committee, Noburu Notomi (Keio University), Yuji Kurihara (Tokyo Gakugei University) and Satoshi Ogihara (Tohoku University), appreciate their kind supports. Report on the workshop : “A Reconsideration of the Chronology of Plato’s Dialogues”

A one-day workshop on A Reconsideration of the chronology of Plato’s dialogues organized jointly by the Museum Graeco-Latinum (Moscow – http://en.mgl.ru/) and the Plato Centre (Dublin, Trinity College – http://www.tcd.ie/plato/) was held on the 11th of May in the Trinity College. Prof. John Dillon and Prof. Vasilis Politis kindly supported the initiative of the Moscow private scholarly institution Museum Graeco-Latinum and thus Russian researchers presented their approach to the chronology of Plato’s dialogues in the following papers: 1. Prof. Y. Shichalin. On the new approach to the chronology of the Corpus Platonicum. 2. Dr. A. Usacheva. Concerning the date of Plato’s Phaedrus. 3. A. Zolotukhina. Report on “Socratica 2008”, Naples, December 2008

Second ‘Socratica’ Conference in Naples On December, 11-13 2008 an international conference entitled Socratica 2008. Seconde giornate di studio sulla letteratura socratica antica was held in Naples (Italy). The symposium was the follow- up of the Socratica meeting held in 2005 in Senigallia (the proceedings of which appeared in 2008). Another one is scheduled for 2011. The scientific aim of these conferences is to provide a broad approach to the context of Plato’s work: Socrates, the Socratics as a group, Xenophon, and the other major Socratics. The event was sponsored by the Istituto Italiano per gli Studi Filosofici, the Universities of Naples “Federico II” and “Orientale”, the University of Salerno, and the International Plato Society. Report on Archai 2008, Brasília, June 2008

Report on “Archai 2008” and Platonic studies in Brazil A week-long conference entitled “V Seminário Internacional Archai 2008” on the general theme of “The Ancient City” (A Cidade Antiga) was held at the University of Brasília from the 2nd to the 6th June, 2008, and I was kindly invited to give the opening lecture. The conference was supported by the Sociedade Brasileira de Platonistas (institutional member of the IPS) and the Núcleo de Estudos Clássicos, and was organized by Gabriele Cornelli (Professor at the Universidade de Brasilia; President of the SBP and member of the IPS) and his team. I congratulate them on the success of this huge and ambitious conference. Report on III Coloquio Internacional de Filosofia Griega, Caracas, November 2008

Report on “III Coloquio Internacional de Filosofia Griega” in Venezuela.   Between November 11th and 13th this year, the “III Coloquio Internacional de Filosofia Griega: en torno a la República de Platón” was held at the “Universidad Central de Venezuela” (in Caracas), organized by Francisco Bravo. The event was supported by the “Centro de Estudios Clásicos” (founded in 1989) – institutional member of the Internacional Plato Society – and sponsored by the “Faculdad de Humanidades y Educación”, by the area of Philosophy in the “Universidad Central de Venezuela” and by the IPS (with the contribution of the Universities “Simón Bolívar”, “Católica Andrés Bello” and the “Sociedad Venezolana de Estudios Clásicos”).
