Conrado Eggers Lan Prize (4rd Ed.) for Best Dissertation on Plato: Call for Submissions

Conrado Eggers Lan was Professor of Ancient Philosophy at the Universities of Buenos Aires, Heidelberg and Autónoma de México (UNAM). He was the co-founder of the International Plato Society and the host of the First Symposium Platonicum held in Mexico City in 1986. In accordance with its mission to promote the study of Plato’s works throughout the world,  to enhance communication between scholars of diverse disciplines working on Plato, and to foster the publication of books and series on Plato, the International Plato Society is pleased to announce the 4nd edition of the Conrado Eggers Lan Prize for the best dissertation in  Platonic studies. Although we understand “Platonic Studies“ very broadly, we are particularly interested in dissertations that contribute to our understanding of Plato’s works. XIV Symposium Platonicum. Plato’s Theaetetus / Call for papers

  Call for papers XIV Symposium Platonicum Plato’s Theaetetus Madrid, May 5th-9th (in person)      May 19th-21st (online) 2025   The International Plato Society organizes a symposium on a single Platonic dialogue every three years. We are pleased to announce the Call for Papers for the XIV Symposium Platonicum: Plato’s Theaetetus. The Symposium will take place in two separate modalities: In Person: May 5–9, 2025, at the Facultad de Filosofía (Universidad Complutense de Madrid) and Online: May 19-21, 2025, from the Facultad de Humanidades (Universidad Carlos III, Madrid). Presentation length: As we want to encourage discussion, speakers will be given double time on this occasion. Papers should be suitable for 40-minute presentations (suggestion: 20 minutes of reading plus 20 minutes of discussion). In memoriam Hans Richarz (1924-2020)

Hans Richarz, born 11 October 1924, Sankt Augustin, Germany, died in the same place, 7 April 2020. During the VII Symposium Platonicum at Würzburg from 26 to 31 July 2004, the General Assembly of the International Plato Society approved unanimously that Dr. Richarz be awarded the first Honorary Membership of the Society, which he accepted, remaining to date the only such recipient. Hans Richarz was the founder of Academia Verlag. On the initiative of Livio Rossetti and Rafael Ferber, he agreed in 1990 to publish the Proceedings of the Symposia Platonica and other books on Plato in the newly founded series «International Plato Studies» in the Academia Verlag, St. Augustin, Germany, now an imprint of Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft, Baden-Baden. Since 1990, there have been 39 published volumes. Among them are the proceedings of the Symposia Platonica, as well as dissertations and the works of leading Plato scholars of different orientations.
