Dear IPS members,
International Plato Society Newsletter, Issue 6 (2010-13)
The preparation for the X Symposium in Pisa is going well. We have received a very positive answer from the Society and we can say that our X Symposium will offer a broad picture of the tendencies of the research on Plato today. A great number of speakers from many countries around the world will come to Pisa to share opinions and ideas about our dialogue, the “Symposium”.
We will open our X Symposium on 15th July at 2.00 p. m. with two plenary papers and three parallel workshops in the “Palazzo dei Congressi”, and soon after we will have the opportunity to socialize during a cocktail party on the Arno and to visit the Renaissance “Palazzo Lanfranchi”. On 16th July, we plan to have two plenary papers and three plus three parallel workshops with a buffet break in the “Polo Carmignani”. Soon after we will have the opportunity to visit “Piazza dei Miracoli” with a special tour of the “Camposanto” and of the “Torre”, where official guides of the “Primaziale” will illustrate the historical background of the site and will accompany us to the reception in the “Chiostro” of the “Museo dell’Opera”. The Aula Magna Nuova and the Aula Magna Storica of the “Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna” will host two plenary papers and three parallel workshops on 17th July and, in the afternoon, we will organize excursions to either Lucca, Alpi Apuane or Bolgheri, of course if we get the minimum number for each destination. On 18th July, we will listen to four plenary papers in the Sala Azzurra of the “Scuola Normale Superiore”, and, in the afternoon, we will go by bus to the “Certosa” of Calci, where we plan to have two parallel sessions for PhD dissertations, our General Assembly and, after a dinner, a baroque music concert in the church. The “Polo Carmignani” will host two plenary papers and three plus three parallel workshops with a buffet break on 19th July, and, after a pause, we will go by bus to Viareggio for our Farewell Dinner on the rooftop terrace of the “Principe di Piemonte”. On 20th July, we will listen to two plenary papers in the “Palazzo dei Congressi”, and we will close our X Symposium at 1.00 p. m.
In general, we would strongly recommend anyone who wishes to participate to complete the necessary form. You can find it on our website, http://www.platosociety.org. Many members have already signed up. However, we would like to remind you of the official deadline for registration. Please note that it is crucial for our Agency to receive the reservation of excursions as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please contact our Agency, symposium2013@aicgroup.it, or our Pisa Committee, symposium.pisa@humnet.unipi.it.
Should you require any equipment for the delivery of your paper, in particular projectors, please do not hesitate to ask. Our Pisa Committee, symposium.pisa@humnet.unipi.it, is waiting for the full text of your paper in order to print the volume of proceedings in due time.
We welcome any special needs or general preferences regarding food, allergies or disability access: if you give us advance notice, we can help you to find a solution.
Please do not forget that, in Pisa, three representatives will conclude their period of appointment in our Executive Committee: Arnaud Macé for Europe, David Runia for Africa, Asia and Oceania, and
Pisa, 29th May 2013
Maria Isabel Santa Cruz for South America. During the X Symposium we also have to vote on the place and the topic of our XII Symposium, in 2019. Therefore, it is important for the preparation of the General Assembly to have official candidatures in advance: knowing the availability of members to take on the role in our Executive Committee or to organize our XII Symposium will facilitate our reflection and our debate in the “Certosa” of Calci.
Looking forward to seeing you all in Pisa, Best wishes
Mauro Tulli
