My research starts in Philosophy at the University of Turin, Italy. There I worked on different branches of Philosophy before choosing the specialization in Ancient Philosophy. The universality and modernity of the thinking of the ancient philosophers, which I could read in their original language, captivated my attention. The realization of the appeal and helpfulness of ancient philosophy to contemporary society has been at the base of my intention of using philosophy for practical purposes; in particular, for the development of the critical skills of children. This idea has progressed at Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, where I worked on the benefits of online learning for the creation of a collaborative learning environment. At the University of Sydney I have developed a research which is centred on the interpretation of Plato's words as cognitive stimulations of the readers. Plato requires the collaboration of his readers. He does not want to convey a static description of how things are. He has created a text that calls out for the readers’ contributions. In order to explain the ways in which Plato helps his readers to advance cognitively, I use an interdisciplinary methodology, relying on philosophy of mathematics, philosophy of science and the learning sciences.
